Minutes of the Meeting held
Present: Gina Dagger, Jacqui Bath, Casey Abram Jones, Deb Gooding, Ingrid Wilkins, Tamara Gould, Adrian Vye, Jo Garner, Eugene James, Mel Kayes.
Apologies: Susan Weaver, Nikki Goodway, Rachel Day, Julia Moss, Rhiannedd Baker, Sue Branton, Sue Brooks, Gaynor Brockwell.
Jacqui welcomed us all to the meeting and the minutes of the last meeting were agreed.
Correspondence:
There was no correspondence of note.
Curry Night:
The curry night was a good night but it was hard work to sell tickets and it was disappointing that there was not more enthusiasm for the event. It is thought that because children were not invited this time some people may have been put off because they had to get a babysitter. Jo suggested maybe a 70’s or 80’s night in the future. Other suggestions for future events included a race night or quiz night.
Ladies Night/Pamper Evening
Jacqui thanked Mel and Gaynor for the enormous amount of hard work that undoubtedly went into organizing the ladies night. It total the school made £456 profit which was not as much as last year but still very respectable. It was felt that a Friday night would be better should we decide to do another one next year as a Thursday night had not been as well supported. PTA also thanked
There was much discussion as to what other events we could hold. Suggestions included a Fashion Show, a Family Ramble and BBQ or a Wine/Whisky Tasting Evening.
In the end we settled on a family summer BBQ and picnic on the field. The aim is not so much for it to be a fund raiser, more a family social occasion that we hope will be well supported. We could charge £1 per adult – children free. The BBQ could make a bit of money and we could consider a raffle and maybe a few games etc.
The timings were tentatively agreed to be from
. However we need to be sure that the Cricket club do not have a match that evening – Gina will speak to Phil Purnell to be sure.
We will also write to new families of children joining St Michael’s and also invite the Abacus children and their families. A band would be good and would add atmosphere, Mel suggested the Ridings could possibly provide a band who would not charge to play. She will investigate and report back. We will discuss further at the next meeting.
Easter Egg Hunt
Thurs 20th March
. Jacqui appealed for as much help as possible for this event which is always manic for just an hour or so. There was much discussion as to whether tickets are £1.50 or £2. It will depend on the size of the eggs which Jacqui will shop for. We will if possible support the local Co-op and buy from them providing they are competitive in price. Gina will organize the flyers and tickets for early next week.
Year 3/4 Party – 2nd May
Not much to do here at the moment. The theme will be that of a Spring Ball. We need to book Lewis for the disco. Gina will speak to Sue Branton to try and sort out – we will finalise all details at the next normal committee meeting which will also take place on the 3rd April in the Cross Hands Pub
Summer Fayre – 21st June.
We formed a Summer Fayre Committee which consisted of Gina, Mel, Casey, Deb, Jo, Tamara, Ingrid, Eugene and Jacqui. The first committee meeting takes place on Thurs 3rd April at the Cross Hands Pub, Winterbourne Down. (Mr Vye mentioned that Mrs Isaacs may have the number for a Steam/Traction Engine suitable to come and give rides. Gina will investigate further in time for the meeting).
Film Nights – Casey asked if we should have the Film Nights more often as they are a good earner for PTA. It was decided that for now one a year was enough to organize.
Treasurers Report
Casey advised that there is currently £ 3,050 in the Current account and £2,018 in the Reserve account. £2,000 of this is earmarked for the school trip coaches and we have to pay some money back to the invitation book people. Jacqui sold 53 invitation books which made PTA £220 which is down from last year where we made £340 but some people have renewed online and Jacqui will investigate how to get the ‘credit’ for these.
AOB
CRB Update – the school must ensure that each Trustee is CRB’d. A discussion ensued about if you are CRB’d for another role you undertake can that CRB can be used for PTA. Mr Vye advised that it couldn’t so Gina will provide him with a list of PTA trustees so he can arrange to have us all checked.
Year 6 have the opportunity to do a Life Skills course at Cannons Marsh where they learn lots of valuable and potential life saving skills. The cost for this is £6 per head but the children do get a free coach. The Committee agreed to pay for the Year 6 children to attend.
Buddy Benches – Liz Harding would like to have two benches painted brightly for children to sit on at playtime when they do not have any one to play with or are feeling upset and lonely. They will then be found someone (a buddy) to play with. The costs are £120 per bench. Eduserve kindly donated £500 last year which has not yet been spent so it was agreed that this money would pay for the Buddy Benches.
Mel Kayes said that Gaynor was prepared to organize a social event for the PTA if we would all like to go. We all decided this was a great idea and Mel will ask Gaynor to think about what we should do. Gina will give Gaynor a list of all those who have attended a PTA Meeting in the last year to ensure they are invited.
Jo Garner said she felt that parents did not really understand what the PTA did. A long discussion ensued as to how to get new blood into the PTA. A suggestion box was suggested along with a PTA Newsletter to tell parents what the PTA have achieved and paid for. A flyer with the PTA member’s photos on a note of who they are and who they are Mum or Dad to was also suggested – Gina agreed to investigate and produce something to go out to the parents to emphasise the PTA’s role within the school community.
The next committee meeting will take place on 3rd April at
in the Cross Hands Pub, Winterbourne Down. This will be followed by a Summer Fayre Committee Meeting.
