Our Partnership with You
PTA
The Parent Teacher Association is very important to school as fund raising takes place, allowing us to purchase extra equipment and pay for traveling exhibitions. It is also an important way to contact other parents and build networks and build a strong school community helping children to identify with the school. Back to topAttendance
Children are expected to be in school from 8.45am and are allowed to wait in the playground, which is supervised by a teacher. The school doors will be open at 8.50am and reception and infant children will come into school to hang up coats. Parents accompanying their children are requested not to go into the classrooms as this leads to congestion and can unsettle younger children. Older children will line up and be collected from the playground by their teachers. Teachers will take the register and arrangements for lunchtime, usually completing the register by 9.05am. If children are late and the register is returned to the office they have to go to the office to be registered. Past 9.30am lateness is classed as unauthorised unless a valid reason is given. Promptness means the teachers can commence teaching as soon as possible, so time can be maximised. Absence must be accompanied by a valid reason usually illness or medical appointments. If you are in doubt as to the validity of keeping your child from school please contact the school so we can discuss the reasons for a request. Back to topHolidays
Children have only 190 days in school and the rest of the time is weekends and holidays, so we ask you not to take your children on holiday during term time. Absence for holidays during term time may be classed as an unauthorised absence and will be recorded on a child?s attendance. Prolonged absence can hinder a child?s education and will also affect relationships with their peers. Back to topHome-School Agreement
When your child starts school there will be a Home School Agreement for you to read and sign. This explains the obligations we honour in helping your child to learn. You have an even bigger part in your child?s education and welfare. In this agreement we explain our expectations of you, supporting our teaching in school. Your child will also be asked to share in this agreement Back to topHelp in Class
Parents are welcome to come into school to help in a range of activities from craft, reading, games, and educational visits. We see this as a valuable resource for the school and enjoy sharing the education of children with other members of the school community. All helpers are closely supported and will need relevant checks for suitability of working with young people. Back to topCommunications
Good relationships between parents, pupils and teachers are underpinned by good communications. We endeavour to keep you informed promptly and regularly of things happening in school. Newsletters are usually sent in book bags and are also posted around school. Please check your children?s bags. We also keep a list of contact numbers for each child in case of emergency. Please make sure that the numbers are current and up to date. We are a friendly school and can usually be contacted on an ad hoc basis. Sometimes it may be necessary to organise a later time but we will discuss issues and concerns for the benefit of your child?s well being and education. We also have a website www.stmichaelswinterbourne.ik.org.We can be contacted by email on StMichaelsWinterbourne.School@southglos.gov.uk. Back to top
